GLITZY BITZ CHALLENGE
Western Dollmakers currently has a Glitzy Bitz Challenge where participants buy a
bag of bits and pieces and use them to make or decorate a doll. They can add
any other things that they like but the aim is to use as much as possible of the
things in the bag of "bits and pieces" and then use them to make or decorate a
doll. They can add any other things that they like, but the aim is to use as much as
possible of the "things in the bag".
There is no size limit for the doll or particular pattern that needs to be used. The
bags come in 4 different colour shades. It will be interesting to see what everyone
comes up with.
Dolls are due back in September 2011.
ELF QUEST CHALLENGE 2011 - 2012
Due to popular demand the Elf Quest is being run again for those that are new to
the club or did not get to participate last time we ran the Elf Challenge.
We have 10 elves that will be starting their journey in September 2011 and should
arrive back home in June 2012.
TECHNIQUES OF MAKING A DOLL
- MONTH BY MONTH MINI-WORKSHOPS DURING CLUB MEETINGS
This year we have started demonstrating techniques of constructing a doll.
Each month we focus on a different section of dollmaking. These mini-workshops
are mainly aimed at new dollmakers or those wishing to learn some different
techniques.
Demonstrations started out with a discussion and samples of the different types of
fabrics that can be used to make dolls. We then used the club fairy pattern, which
was enlarged 20%, to show various methods of making the parts of a dolls body,
concentrating on a different body part each month.
In June we will be sculpting the cloth head and hopefully everyone will have 3
completed by the August meeting, as the next three meetings we will be
demonstrating different ways of colouring the facial features, including using glass
eyes and adding eyelids.
Next year we will be putting all the pieces together and then look at hair and
clothing, as well as wings and perhaps some jewellery.
Cheers Robyn.
